The day Drew Miller and Bryan Wilson merged Clay Culpepper's Gibbs & Culpepper Tree Service is the day that changed the trajectory of Miller's Tree Service. Clay's knack for talking to people, his patience in explaining arboriculture concepts to customers, and his push for the true professionalization of the business brought Miller's to new heights.
Not Your Average Arborist
Before he ever touched a chainsaw professionally, Clay spent eight years as a CPA. He holds a bachelor's in accounting from the University of Alabama and a master's in tax accounting from Florida State — two schools, two degrees, zero intention of spending his career behind a desk.
That background changed everything for Miller's. Clay understood margin, process, and growth in ways that most tree companies never have. He's a big reason the company scaled from roughly 7 employees to over 60.
Everyone Knows Clay
Born in Andalusia, Alabama, Clay has lived in Tallahassee since he was five. He can't drive five minutes across town without running into someone he knows. He's an active member of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce and loves connecting with local entrepreneurs about what it takes to build something that lasts.
Clay is a believer in Will Guidara's Unreasonable Hospitality — the idea that going above and beyond isn't just a business strategy, it's the right way to treat people. That philosophy shows up in every customer interaction.
Off the Clock
Clay and his wife, Angie, are raising three active boys: Ashby, Carson, and Hagan. When he's not working, you'll find him hunting, fishing, or on the golf course — and almost certainly coaching one of his sons' teams.
"I'm very proud of partnering up with Drew and Bryan and helping us grow from around 7 employees to currently over 60. Our growth and success are something I take great pride in and the people and culture we have at MTS I would not trade with anyone. I really love to come to work every day, and I think that speaks volumes to the kind of people we have on our team and the loyal customer base we have."
