Healthier Honey Locusts at Holy Family

The Challenge

The grounds of Holy Family Church featured several honey locust trees that had been declining in health over a period of years. These ornamental shade trees were a valued part of the property's landscape, providing beauty and comfort to the congregation and visitors. However, they were exhibiting sparse canopies, early leaf drop, and signs of stress that pointed to underlying issues with soil conditions, pest pressure, or improper past maintenance. The church wanted to restore these trees to full vitality rather than resort to removal and replacement.

Our Approach

Miller's Tree Service sent a team of ISA Certified Arborists to evaluate each honey locust on the property. The assessment revealed a combination of compacted root zones, minor pest activity, and structural issues from years of deferred pruning. Our arborists developed a restoration plan that included careful corrective pruning to improve canopy structure and air circulation, soil amendments and fertilization to support root health, and targeted treatments to manage pest concerns. We also addressed drainage issues in the root zones that were contributing to stress.

The Result

Within a growing season, the honey locusts showed marked improvement in canopy density, leaf color, and overall vigor. The church was able to preserve these mature landscape trees rather than bearing the cost and visual impact of removal. The trees now contribute to an inviting, well-maintained campus that reflects the care and attention the congregation puts into their property.
