I want to share some news that took a lot of years to get to: I've earned the ISA Board Certified Master Arborist designation.
The BCMA is the highest credential the International Society of Arboriculture awards. It's built on top of ISA Certified Arborist status — which itself requires passing a rigorous exam and maintaining continuing education — but the BCMA goes significantly further. It requires documented experience, letters of recommendation from peers in the field, a comprehensive written examination, and an oral review board with a panel of senior arborists.
I've been in this industry for over 20 years. I didn't pursue it to put letters after my name. I pursued it because the exam forced me to organize and articulate everything I've learned about how trees work, how they fail, and how to care for them well — and that process made me better at my job.
There are fewer than 3,500 BCMAs in the world. For context: there are roughly 75,000 ISA Certified Arborists. It's a small group, and I'm proud to be part of it.
What this means for our customers is straightforward: when Tim Walters shows up to assess a tree, write a report, or recommend a course of action, that recommendation is backed by the highest level of independent credentialing in the profession.
